Located just above the Arctic Circle, in Norway, within the incredible Helgeland coastline, close to both Bodø and the Nordic gem Lofoten, Svart Hotel will be the World’s first energy-positive off-grid destination! The circular property has a 360-degree view of the Svartisen glacier, and enables an enriching experience both in summer and winter, as the surrounding waters are crystal-clear, summer days last forever, and winter is lit by the breathtaking Northern Lights!
Activities can go from ice glacier climbing, mountain biking, hiking, deep-sea fishing, horse riding, sailing the fjords, swimming on crystal blue and green waters, enjoying the view and nature immensity, watching the Northern Lights, and many more!
Vision and Concept
Svart is the first building to be designed and built according to the highest energy efficiency standards, and is expected to save 85% of its annual energy consumption and to harvest enough solar energy to cover both the hotel operations and the energy needed for its construction.
How come it's an off-grid hotel?
It means that the hotel and its adjacent services, including the greenhouse farm, boat shuttles, and experiences, will be completely self-sufficient in electricity, water and waste management. Besides, Svart Hotel is focusing on a “farm to table” service to provide a different experience to its guests.
Svart Hotel is one of the projects under development from MIRIS, a technology-driven real estate development company that enables sustainable solutions, and the Hotel Development Director is Ivaylo Lefterov. The hotel, which is designed by the Norwegian architect firm Snøhetta, will have about 100 rooms, an onsite education and design lab, and a sustainable farm producing ingredients for the hotel’s four restaurants. It’s expected to be completed and ready to receive guests in 2022. If you want to know more, visit their official site here.
